1,2-Propanediol, Miscible with water, acetone, and chloroform, soluble in ether. It is hygroscopic and stable under normal conditions, but easily generates propionaldehyde, lactic acid, pyruvic acid, and acetic acid at high temperatures.
It is used as a gas chromatography fixing solution, solvent, plasticizer, and dehydrating agent; it can also be used as an antifreeze and heat carrier.
