Dimethyl ether, an organic compound, is a colorless, odorless, flammable gas in the standard state with the chemical formula C2H6O.
Mixed with air, it can form explosive mixtures, which can easily burn and explode in contact with heat, sparks, flames or oxidizers. Contact with air or in the light conditions can be generated with potentially explosive peroxides, density than air, can be diffused in the lower part of the place to a considerable distance, when the ignition source will catch fire back to combustion. If it meets high heat, the pressure inside the container increases, and there is a danger of cracking and explosion.
Mainly used as methylating agent for the production of dimethyl sulfate, but also synthesize N,N-dimethylaniline, methyl acetate, acetic anhydride and ethylene, etc.; can also be used as an alkylating agent, refrigerant, foaming agent, solvent, leaching agent, extractant, anaesthetic, fuel, civil composite ethanol and Freon aerosol substitute. Used in hair care, skin care, drugs and paints as all kinds of aerosol propellants. Fuel additives promoted abroad have many unique uses in the pharmaceutical, dye and pesticide industries.

Package | Dimethyl ether (DME) has similar physical properties to LPG and the domestic regulations for the safety of high pressure gases still apply. The transportation and storage system is also the same as that of LPG. It is not corrosive to metals, and there is no significant difference between LPG and transportation vessels, pipes, storage tanks, etc. Large-capacity tanks are stored in low-temperature tanks at about -25℃. With low-temperature tanks, only general BOG (gasification gas) re-liquefaction equipment is needed, but the required pressure can be slightly lower than that of LPG.The latent heat of evaporation of DME is basically the same as that of propane, which is conducive to lowering the operating costs of DME. |
